Beautiful Seaside sent a message to her rivals in the first leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS) for three-year-old pacing fillies on Monday, May 1. The Downbytheseaside filly turned in the best time of the night on the way to a commanding nine-length win at Miami Valley Raceway.
Seven divisions for sophomore fillies were contested with a purse of $20,000 for each division.
Trace Tetrick took Beautiful Seaside three-wide down the backstretch, grabbing the lead at the three-quarter pole and never looking back. The Melby Ober Jr. trainee. won in 1:53.4, the fastest time of the seven divisions. The win was the second in four starts this year for the homebred filly owned by Matt Rowe.
The second fastest Buckeye Stallion Series time of the card went to High Flyin Filly and Chris Page. The daughter of Domethatagain took the pocket trip and got up at the wire to win by a neck in 1:55. Trained by Ron Burke, High Flyin Filly has hit the board in nine of 10 starts this year with three wins for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.
Page had two BSS winners as he picked up his first with Stormy Serena, who was making her first start of the year. Stormy Serena turned for home in fourth but charged down the lane to win by a length in 1:57.1. The homebred Fear The Dragon filly is trained by Melanie Wrenn for owners Emerald Highlands Farm, Dolne Farm Services and Wrenn Racing.
In the first Buckeye Stallion Series race on the card, Tre Rock with Brett Miller driving went gate-to-wire to win in 1:55.2 for trainer Vernon Beachy, who co-owns with First Up Racing Stable. The daughter of Pet Rock won for the first time this year in three starts.
Emeralds Highland Farm's homebred Fear Of Sport also went gate-to-wire as Howard Parker drove the season-debuting Fear The Dragon filly to the 1:55.3 victory by three-quarters of a length for trainer Kelly O’Donnell.
Seaside Show, with Cam McGown, took the lead at the half-mile mark and hung on to win by a length in 1:57. Jessica McGown trains the daughter of Downbytheseaside, who won for the first time in four seasonal starts, for owner Joel Miller Jr.
Racing For Three charged to the lead around the final turn in her division and held on to win by a head in 1:55.3. Tyler Smith drove the Western Terror filly for trainer AJ Carlo. The win was the second in three starts this year for Racing For Three, who is owned and bred by C2g Stable and Carlo Racing.
Buckeye Stallion Series action continues on Tuesday night at Miami Valley with five divisions of three-year-old colt trotters. Each division will carry a purse of $20,000. First race post time is 4 p.m.
