Twilight Bonfire Wins Scioto Open

The Saturday night card at Scioto Downs was definitely stacked with talent, especially the $17,500 Open Pace. With a full field of 10 going to post, their combined earnings were in excess of $3 million.

Bob Key's four-year-old homebred Twilight Bonfire prevailed in 1:50.2 for trainer Rich Gillock and driver Tony Hall.

Twilight Bonfire got away fourth, but didn’t sit there for long. Hall pulled on the right line just past the quarter, which was reached in :26.2. After clearing just past the half-mile marker in :55.4, the sprint was on to the wire. Twilight Bonfire paced strong to the finish line, holding off a late rally from Beach Memories with Carols Comet completing the trifecta.

The track was fast on Saturday night. The first nine races were all paced under 1:53. It wasn't until the last three races when the timer hit 1:53.

Drivers Chris Page and Josh Sutton scored hat tricks on the card while Hall had a double.
