After doing all kinds of winning in New York, New Legacy comes North and takes on the featured Open Trot on the first Thursday evening (May 11) program of the Summer Meet at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First race post time is 6 p.m. for the 10-dash program with the $3,100 Open Trot headlined in race nine.

New Legacy has already wheeled off a trio of winning trips at Monticello Raceway in New York in 2023 and now comes into the Colin Johnson stable with post three on Thursday evening. Marc Campbell gets the catch driving call for owners Debbie Element of Village Green, Don MacNeill of Stanhope and Matt and David Burke of Stratford, P.E.I. The five-year-old son of Father Patrick has only missed the triactor once in seven starts so far this year and was a sharp qualifying winning last week at the Capital Oval.

Jessiejesorjessica was the champion of the Open Trot in 2022 and gets post seven on Thursday evening with Gilles Barrieau in the seat for trainer Jennifer Doyle. The Justice Hall seven-year-old recorded nine wins and eight seconds in 2022.

Also in the field are Rockadero (to be driven by Corey MacPherson), Dealin Magic (David Dowling), Hallofaride (Dale Spence), Glider Man (Adam Merner) and Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy).

The Post Time Picks side with New Legacy on top.

“New Legacy looked impressive in the qualifier winning by over two lengths and closing home in :29.4. He also gets an awesome spot to work from so don’t be shocked if he wins in his Island debut.”

Race fans are in for a treat in race six of the evening with some of the top sophomore fillies on the Eastern Seaboard facing off for a $2,800 pot. Truro Raceway track record holder Redlandbethanyjean (Brodie MacPhee) has post six while facing New Brunswick Breeders champion Nannie Bernice (Dowling) from post two along with Itsuptoyou (MacPherson) with post four and Singing Ramona (Barrieau) from post five.

The special Thursday program features the Isle Pick 5 with a $1,500 guaranteed pool presented in part by the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association, as well as two Super Hi-5s and a late Pik 4 with low 15 per cent takeouts.
