Don Sherman sent Heidis Heart to the lead from post 4 and had challenges every step of the way, but the veteran trotting mare rebuffed them all and hung on to win the $7,500 GLADA Trot on Sunday night (April 3) in 1:58.2 at Northfield Park.

After Sherman made the front, his trotting mare never had a breather and she was challenged the entire mile by Emerald Chip, who went an amazing trip while being on the limb. They were one-two past the half in :59 and still side-by-side when they trotted by the three quarters in 1:28.3. At that point they were joined by Curlys Son, who trotted around cover to join Heidis Heart at the top of the lane and the two were side by side when they headed for paydirt. Despite being challenged every step of the mile, the trotting mare was a nose better then Curlys Son when the finish line camera snapped. The margin of victory was just a nose but enough to garner first money. Third place went to Emerald Chip.

Heidis Heart, a six-year-old daughter of Uncle Peter, is owned by Judy Roegner and trained by Jessica Roegner. Sent the odds-on favourite the winner paid $2.80.
