The month of April got off to a great start Friday evening at Cal Expo with the all source handle exceeding $1 million

.

Approximately $60,000 was wagered on track with $500,000 being generated at the California off-track sites. A total of $300,000 came from out-of-state wagering locations and there was $160,000 from ADW sources.

“This handle figure is a testament to the interest our players have in our product and the hard work done by the grooms, owners, trainers and drivers in ensuring our field sizes create wagering value and the racing is competitive,” said David Elliott, Cal Expo Director of Racing.

“We are on a good roll right now with our handle figures and I’m hopeful it remains consistent, especially with our increase of the guaranteed gross pool of the Saturday night Late Pick 4 by 50 percent,” Elliott continued.

Tonight (Saturday) is the first night Cal Expo is increasing the guaranteed gross pool for the Saturday Late Pick 4 from $10,000 to $15,000. Along with that, the wager has a reduced takeout of 15 per cent, and there is a bonus for players who make the winning bet on track at Cal Expo or on TwinSpires.com.

“We’re excited about the recent success of the meet,” concluded Elliott.
