Quirky Horse Name = Mainstream Press

Many in horse racing work very hard to get industry stories in mainstream publications to no avail. That being said, one of the biggest news outlets in the world has run a horse racing story today (Friday, April 15) and it was solely because of the name of a racehorse.

CNN has run a story that profiles a down-under Thoroughbred who goes by the name of ‘Horsey McHorseface.’

The article states that the horse’s owners decided to give the two-year-old gelding the odd name as a play off of ‘Boaty McBoatface’ – which, according to a public poll, is apparently the most popular name for a $300 million polar research ship.

Journalists with CNN contacted Horsey McHorseface’s connections, who explained how the quirky moniker came to be. One of the horse’s owners, Joe Rosetti, came up with the idea and got the other co-owner, Bjorn Baker, on board.

"We had a laugh about it in the office and thought, 'Hey, why not'," racing manager Jake Bruce explained to CNN. "Joe's a good bloke and he's a good horse – we just thought it would be a good fit."

Horsey McHorseface is expected to make his debut sometime in May.
