Officials with Yonkers Raceway have announced that an across-the-board purse increase will be coming into effect in the near future.
A release from the track states that a 20 per cent, across-the-board purse increase will come into effect this Sunday (March 15).
In addition, to show its appreciation for the horsepeople that have ‘overstuffed’ the box for the ‘French’ trots, those races, which already went for larger purses, are also bumped another 20 per cent.
In terms of numbers, the non-‘French trot’ purses – which ranged from $9,000 to $35,000 – now go from $11,000 to $42,000. The ‘French’ races (the next one is scheduled for Sunday, March 15) went from a range of $13,000/$46,000 to $15,600/$55,200.
“We’re very happy to be able to offer these substantial purse increases,” Yonkers’ COO Bob Galterio was quoted as saying in the release. “We’re very grateful to all the horsemen who have continued to support us, especially with the oversized fields. We also understand this is the time of the season when they have more choices where to race, and we are committed to presenting the best product possible.”
