Responses To Halifax Racino Denial

Horsepeople in the province of Nova Scotia have reacted to the news that there will not be a racino coming to

Dartmouth.

According to a report by the Truro Daily News, last week the NDP government decided against endorsing a proposal by Mississauga, Ont.-based Celebration Casinos Corp. to build a new racino in the Burnside Industrial Park.

"It's too bad they never got things going in Halifax there," the report has quoted horseman Fred Saunders as saying. "We need one big track and Halifax would be the area for it. I would say with the population up there it would be good for the whole Maritimes. Especially Nova Scotia."

"The government knocked down a big, big project there," horseman Phil Pinkney was quoted as saying. "We really needed something like that. We just can't compete with the level of gaming that they have now," he said, regarding the provincially-owned video lottery terminals, lotto draws and the Halifax casino.
