For the second straight start Penzance Hanover found his way to victory lane against some of the top pacers Dover Downs has to offer in the Thursday’s $27,500 Open Handicap.
Penzance Hanover powered to the early lead while racing parked from Post 7, but he then gave way to Rose Run Uriah. The opening quarter was stepped in :26.2, and from there Rose Run Uriah threw down middle splits of :53.4 and 1:22.1.
Penzance Hanover rallied in the lane and his :28.2 closing speed was enough to earn him the win by a length over Movin On Up in 1:50.4. Rose Run Uriah weakened late and settled for third.
Sent off as the 7-5 favourite, Penzance Hanover posted fourth win of the season for owner/trainer/driver Art Stafford, Jr. of Felton, DE. The 27-time winner recently surpassed $260,000 in career earnings.
