Record Within Smith's Reach?

Twenty-year-old Tyler Smith continued to rack up the victories on Wednesday night as he drove five more winners.

The Northfield Park reinsman's winners included JJs Beat The Rap ($2.80) in race one, Life Long Hanover ($3.20) in race three, Mr Sam ($5) in race five, Handnlcbgetwithit ($3) in race 10, and Morningsailor ($3) in race 12.

Smith has garnered 107 victories at Northfield this year and enjoys a seven-win lead over Chris Page (100) in the local standings. Ryan Stahl (50), Keith Kash Jr. (46) and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. (43) complete the top five.

Currently Smith’s wins rank him as the sixth winningest driver in North America. If wins keep stacking up, he could become the youngest driver in the history of harness racing to reach the 1,000-win benchmark. The 20-year-old started driving in 2009 and has since garnered 796 career victories and just over $4.3 million in purse earnings.

Doug McNair currently holds the record, reaching the 1,000-win milestone just before his 21st birthday in 2010.
