Municipality To OLG: Pay For Referendum

It has been reported that an Ontario municipality that is considering becoming a willing host to a casino under the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.'s gaming modernization plan has asked the provincial gaming arm to foot the bill for a local referendum on the issue.

An article on simcoe.com has explained that Collingwood Council voted 8-1 in favour of a motion to present the request to the OLG.

“We have no authority to demand this of the OLG, but I believe we should follow the lead of some other municipalities and ask them to take responsibility for paying for it, because they are the ones who want this in our community,” Councillor Ian Chadwick was quoted as saying.
