One of the top open class pacers in Western Canada is looking to make his mark in Ontario, and unleashed an impressive qualifier on Friday (March 11) in advance of his pari-mutuel debut.
Dontpokethedragon was a 12-time winner for his connections in 2021 and mustered 22 top-three finishes from 27 starts predominantly against open and stakes company. Making his second start for Team Cullen on Friday, Dontpokethedragon was untouchable is his morning test by virtue of a wire-to-wire win in 1:53.3 over a snow-covered surface at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Trained by Jodie Cullen and driven by Travis Cullen, Dontpokethedragon (Custard The Dragon - Rummy Command) sports a mark of 1:51.3f taken last fall at Fraser Downs along with a $172,930 bankroll from his 54 career starts. Eight of his 12 wins in 2021 for owners Paul Sanders, JJJ Stables and Jim Marino came against open / stakes competition.
