The Ontario Provincial Police have set up a command post and temporary collision reporting centre at Georgian Downs, located just off Highway 400, after a large snow squall resulted in a 96-car pileup just south of Barrie on Thursday (Feb. 27) morning.

As a report by CBC News explains, the accident occurred at roughly 9 a.m. Friday morning after the busy highway was slammed with white-out conditions.

The CBC News report states that as a result of the situation, Hwy. 400 was closed between Hwy. 89 and Mapleview Drive.

An article by simcoe.com states that the temporary collision reporting centre was set up at the area raceway as was quickly accommodating motorists that were involved.

“There were only three people taken to hospital, all with non-life-threatening injuries,” OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford told CBC News. “It could’ve been a lot worse.”
