Moosette Motors, Campbell Crushes At Fraser

Odds-on favourite Moosette charged along the rim to the final turn and landed the spoils of the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Thursday night (Feb. 23).

Miss Itunes took the lead to a :27.1 first quarter and led unchallenged through a :57.1 half. Driver Brandon Campbell tipped Moosette off the pegs from fourth up the backstretch and gathered momentum to three-quarters in 1:25.1 before surging to the lead off the bottom turn. In High Cotton kicked down the center of the track but began rolling too late and settled for second in a 1:54.2 mile, beaten a neck. Century Mach sat a pocket trip to finish third and Miss Itunes faded to fourth.

Jim Marino trains Moosette, a six-year-old Hes Watching mare, for owner-breeder Shale Stables. She won her 23rd race from 67 starts, has now banked $171,878 and paid $3.60 to win.

Campbell and Marino thrived on the card. Campbell steered six winners, including an additional two for Marino to give the conditioner a hat trick. The two teamed with Western Summit (1:54.4 winning mile; $4.70 to win) and Hotpieceoface (1:55.3; $2.90). Campbell’s other wins came with Pick Up Stix (1:59.1; $6.80), Cause To Believe (1:58.4; $4.60) and JK Pure Gold ($2.40; 1:55).
