Canadian-owned Resistance Futile and Wilcox were the stars of the second leg of the Junior Trendsetter Series on Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Driven by Andy Miller, Resistance Futile overcame an outside post to remain undefeated in the series as he rolled to a 1:51.3 two length triumph in his $12,500 Friday division over the other first leg winner, Humility (Tim Tetrick). Fiftyshadesdarker (John Campbell) rounded out the top three finishers.

The sophomore son of Real Desire is trained by Robert Siegelman while racing at The Big M for owners Robert Burgess of Campbellville, Ont., Karin Olsson Burgess of Milton, Ont., the Champagne Stable of Toronto, and James Walker of Port Perry, Ont.

Wilcox and driver Yannick Gingras wore down Terror High (David Miller) to win the other division by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.2. Rock Icon (Andy Miller) finished third.

Tony Alagna trains the Somebeachsomewhere colt, who finished third to Humility during round one, for owners Brenda Selwyn Waxman of Dundas, Ont. and Isaac Waxman of Ancaster, Ont.

The series, which is for three-year-old colts and geldings that are non-winners of two races or $25,000 lifetime as of Jan. 18, 2013, will conclude next weekend.

On the trotting side, Quick Deal made short work of the $30,000 featured trot, dominating his opponents in an eye-opening 1:52.4 on a cold February night in line to Gingras. That makes back-to-back impressive wins for five-year-old Revenue S gelding, who is trained by Ron Burke for New York owners Our Horse Cents Stables and Rossie Smith.

Friday marked one of the largest single day increases in handle at the Meadowlands. The final tally of $3,201,100 in total handle showed an increase from this same Friday in 2012 of $1,201,477, or an unbelievable 60 per cent (there was one additional race in 2013). Equally as impressive was the spike shown in live handle, which was a remarkable 40 per cent. The Meadowlands has shown increases every night of racing so far this year and has now done more $3 million Friday nights than the total number of $3 million nights in 2012.

Racing resumes Saturday at 7:15 p.m. with an action packed 13-race card, filled with stakes finals and the reappearance of the sensational Golden Receiver.
