After her adoptive and supportive role as a surrogate mom in 2016, it's perhaps only fitting that broodmare Emprize Hanover would deliver her 2017 foal on a holiday known as Family Day.
Emprize Hanover made headlines around the globe in 2016 after adopting an orphan foal at Joanne Colville's High Stakes Farm. The story was also featured on Woodbine Entertainment's award-winning North America Cup broadcast.
At the time, Emprize Hanover was in foal to trotting stallion Cornaro Dasolo, due to foal around Valentine's Day. While she missed that holiday, she hit the next one and delivered a filly on Monday, February 20 -- Family Day in Ontario. Both mare and foal are doing well.

Colville also reports that the 2016 foals known as Elena and Junior are doing well as yearlings. Registered as Peristera (aka Elena) and Fleetwood (aka Junior) they will report for training this fall with owners Charalambos Christoforou Sr. and Banjo Farms retaining ownership.
