Lovedbythemasses circled the field off fourth-over cover to just nab veteran JL Cruze in Tuesday’s (Feb. 15) $25,000 Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs.
JL Cruze, sent the 9-5 favourite, carved fractions of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:25.1 before facing a stern first-over challenge from Northern Express into the far turn. Tim Tetrick, who had gotten away seventh with Lovedbythemasses, angled his charge off stalled cover with a quarter mile to go, and the five-year-old Muscle Mass gelding unleashed a four-wide brush off the home turn to collar JL Cruze by a half length in 1:53.3. Northern Express protected third after being engulfed off cover.
Trainer Jeff Cullipher co-owns Lovedbythemasses, who paid $9.00 to win, with Pollack Racing LLC.
Driver Tony Morgan won three races on the 12-race program.
Scuola Hanover will look to extend her three-race winning streak in Wednesday’s (Feb. 16) featured Mares Winners Over/Open Pace, carded as Race 11. First post time is 4:30 p.m. (EST).
