Lyons Bettorday sat patiently along the pylons and roared to victory in the $25,676 Mares Winners Over/Select Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday (Feb. 14) night.

Southwind Icenfire, the 3-5 betting favourite, launched from post eight and led the field of pacing mares to the opening quarter in :27.2. Tae also left from the outside but settled in the pocket. Lyons Bettorday got away third.

Southwind Icenfire controlled the pace as the field remained in single file reaching the half in :56.3, a :29.1 quarter. Southwind Icenfire continued on an uncontested lead through a :28.1 panel, passing the three-quarters in 1:24.4.

Lyons Bettorday maneuvered off the pylons approaching the top of the stretch. Tae remained in the pocket awaiting her cue. In the stretch, Southwind Icenfire’s lead started to evaporate.
