'Nirvana' Repeats In Ontario Boys

Nirvana Seelster earned his second consecutive front-stepping score in the Ontario Boys Series at Woodbine Racetrack, this time winning by over six lengths on the -20 degree Saturday evening.

Driven by Phil Hudon, 2-1 favourite Nirvana Seelster left again from post six and led his seven-horse division through fractions of :27.3, :56.1 and 1:25.1 en route to the 1:54.3 triumph. Ramblingamblinman (Rick Zeron) edged out Mittcent Van Gogh (Chris Christoforou) back in second.

William Budd trains the Camluck-No Strikes Against gelding, who is now two-for-six in his four-year-old campaign. Bruce Davy of Brockville, Ont. is the winning owner.

Nirvana Seelster returned $6.10 for a $2 win ticket.

Ideal Jet picked up his first victory of the season in the other $18,000 series division with Randy Waples taking him to the front after the first quarter.

The inside starter brushed from third to first after a :28.3 opening panel and proceeded to lead the field of six past the half in :57.4 and three-quarters in 1:26.2 with P L Heavenly (Mario Baillargeon) chasing after him to the wire in 1:55.2. The winning margin was just over a length. Early leader Regal Babe (Chris Christoforou) finished third.

Craig Barss trains and co-owns the homebred Jeremes Jet-Ashlees Luck gelding, who was making his fifth start of the season, with Nurko Sokolovic of Waterloo, Ont.

Ideal Jet, who had finished eighth from post 12 in the single-dash first leg of the series, paid $6.50 to win as the 2-1 favourite this week.

The Ontario Boys Series is for Ontario-sired pacers that are non-winners of $100,000 lifetime or non-winners of $50,000 last year as of Oct. 31, 2014.

The Jackpot Hi 5 carryover has reached $339,989.06 heading into Monday night's harness racing card. Saturday's final race was won by the late-closing 14-1 shot, The Rev, with favourite Topcornerterror, Stompin Tom Creek, Hes A Sensation and American Gi completing the top five finish order. The Jackpot Hi 5's winning 7-6-5-2-4 combination paid $4,480.05 for a $1 based wager. First race post time on Monday is 7:25 p.m.
