Post position seven is usually a tough spot for a horse to win from over London’s half-mile oval, but it wasn’t a stumbling block for CheddarBay, who powered to an impressive score in Monday’s main event at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
In rein to J Harris, CheddarBay rocketed his way to the top and sailed through fractions of :28.2, :59 and 1:28. He then used a :29.2 closing panel to fend off the pocket-sitting favourite, Lovemyrockinbird, in 1:57.2. Harpers Hat Trick took home third prize in the $13,000 Preferred event for horse and gelding pacers.
Peter Core trains the seven-year-old son of Betterthancheddar-Mystical Seelster for owners/breeders Donald & Heather McGregor of Camlachie, Ont. The 16-time winner has assembled a 2-1-1 record in his first five starts of the season. He recently surpassed $200,000 in career earnings.
