Veteran mare Major League N hit one out of the park winning the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace during February's first card at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Campaigned by the husband and wife, driver and trainer team of Ed and Ashleigh Hensley, Major League N returned to the London, Ont. oval and was bet down to odds of 1-5 after defeating the top distaffers here two starts ago on Jan. 18 and just getting collared for the win last Saturday in a 1:52.4 mile at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Major League N's explosive gate speed landed her on top from the outside post seven before the first turn in Wednesday night's feature as the favourite sprinted a :27.2 opening panel before taking a second quarter breather.

It wasn't until the :57.4 midway mark when the action began as L A Woman (Travis Cullen) made a move from fourth. She progressed first-up and briefly held second-place by a neck on the backside but posed no further threat as Major League N raced on to three-quarters in 1:26.4.

So Frisky (Colin Kelly), the 3-1 second choice who established pocket position early on, launched her attack down the stretch but came up a three-quarters of a length short as Major League N cruised home a 1:57.4 winner. Charmbro Brie (Paul MacKenzie) closed for third over L A Woman.

Major League N, who is now two-for-four to start the year, paid $2.50 to win.

The 10-year-old Gotta Go Cullen-Candlestick Park mare earned her 28th career victory and lifted her lifetime bankroll to $262,868.

During the back-half of the mid-week program, local trainer Lindsey Kerr tripled up, sending out Bettors Victory ($14.20) and Dali Cat ($6.40), both driven by four-time Wednesday winner Travis Henry, and Prestige Seelster ($9.60), with Tyler Borth in the racebike. Kerr enjoyed a career-best season in 2021 with 72 wins and $424,621 in earnings.

Henry also drove back-to-back upset winners from the John Kennedy stable to lead all drivers on the 11-race card.
