Livinthebeachlife cruised gate-to-wire to win the $36,000 Preferred Pace on Saturday (Dec. 9) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Louis-Philippe Roy and the Victor Puddy student sprinted from post seven and assumed control. The pair used every advantage of the open track ahead to post panels in :26.1, :54.2 and 1:22.1. Cold Creek Queso (Jody Jamieson) closed sharply, but was unable to catch Livinthebeachlife, who won by a half length in 1:50. Taurasi (Doug McNair) finished third.

Gordon McDonald, Christopher Boland and Limco Inc. co-own the five-year-old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere and the Artsplace mare Stienams Place. Livinthebeachlife won his 10th seasonal victory and 19th career tally. With $203,920 earned this season to date, he moved his lifetime sum to $282,265. He paid $27.80 to win for the 13-1 upset.

Roy added a total of four victories to his win tally, including one with Hangover Hill (Bettors Delight-Chasing Ideals). Scoring in 1:54, the sophomore gelding posted his fifth win in a row for trainer Chantal Mitchell and owner Tom Hill. His record stands at 5-0-0 in six starts with $45,350 banked. He paid $3.40 to win.
