Tyler Borth had a big night at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Friday (Dec. 9), driving five winners before capping off the 10-race card with a final training triumph.

Borth was a winner right out of the gate, taking the opener with pacing mare P L Orchid ($3.50) for trainer Jason Sherman. Two races later, he scored with the maiden-breaking two-year-old pacing colt Come On Artie ($4.40) for conditioner Dwayne May and picked up a live catch-drive mid-card winning with the Blair Burgess-trained sophomore trotter Commemorative ($7.60). Borth later won back-to-back races starting in the seventh dash with the mare Scarlet Dragon ($4.90) scoring from off-the-pace for the Stephen Bossence stable and then holding on by a head for an upset with pacing mare Azucar Pipedream ($21.20) for trainer Thomas Hamm.

But Borth wasn't quite done. While he drove favourite Bucktober to a third-place finish in the finale, his stablemate Jayport Roadrunner ($23.50) upset at 10-1 with Scott Wray driving the three-year-old trotting colt.

Putting up career-best numbers in 2022, Borth ranks among the top 10 drivers in Canada for wins with 293. In his first seven-figure season, horses he's driven have earned more than $2 million.

The 2014 Future Star Award winner closed within two victories of Western Fair's 2022 leading driver Travis Henry (136-134) with 11 race dates left this year.
