Sophomore pacing colt Apprentice Hanover earned star of the card honours at Woodbine Racetrack on Saturday night winning the fastest race of the 12-dash card for driver Jody Jamieson.

Apprentice Hanover won the second race, a $24,000 conditioned pace, in 1:51.2 by half a length. Cougar Hall was the runner-up to give sire Somebeachsomewhere a sweep of the top two spots. Sweet Talkin Satin came from the backfield to finish one and a quarter lengths behind in third.

Jamieson fired 3-2 favourite Apprentice Hanover to the lead from post six and put up a :27.3 opening quarter before giving way to the on-rushing Cougar Hall. The new leader swept from fourth to first before the :56 half-mile mark and proceeded to the third quarter station in 1:23.2. But Apprentice Hanover out-sprinted Cougar Hall down the stretch with a :27.4 final frame to earn back-to-back Woodbine wins after a fall stakes campaign.

Apprentice Hanover is trained by Ben Wallace for owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. The career winner of nine races and $432,474 in purses holds a mark of 1:49.4, taken in the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Consolation at The Meadows in September.

Yucatan, another son of Somebeachsomewhere trained by Corey Johnson and owned by Debbie Element of Waterdown, Ont., earned his first Woodbine win in the 11th race while pulling off the biggest upset of the night at odds of 11-1 in rein to Randy Waples. Sunny Beach Day, the longest shot on the board at 101-1, and 14-1 shot Rocknroll Harmony came on for second and third to spark a $10,932.40 triactor.

Jamieson and Anthony MacDonald each had driving doubles on Saturday.
