Horse Owner Banned For Betting

According to a story on Guardian.co.uk, the British Horseracing Authority has slapped a three-year ban horse owner Leighton Brookes

for betting against his own horses.

The investigation reveled that there were three instances in which the Betfair exchange was used to wager against horses owned by Brookes. The defence for Brookes indicated the Betfair account was a joint account, and a friend of Brookes had made the wagers without his knowledge.

"I'm not going to make any comment," said David Evans, who trains the majority of Brookes’ horses. “What he was doing had nothing to do with me and as far as I know he hasn’t got any horses in training right now. I got rid of him.”

Evans was interviewed by the BHA investigators, but he will not face disciplinary proceedings.
