Owners, trainers, drivers and longtime employees will be saluted in the winner’s circle Saturday afternoon in a special Fraser Downs 35th anniversary party

.

And as an added feature – back by popular demand – there will be a Guaranteed $10,000 Win 4 presented by the British Columbia Lotto Corporation by picking consecutive winners in Races 6, 7, 8 and 9.

There were five winners of the Win 4 on Boxing Day at Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino with the tote board lighting up like a Christmas tree when Immunity, driven by Andrew Arsenault, captured the ninth race at odds of 41-1 and paid $84.70 to win.

The winning Pick 4 numbers were 2-9-4-6 for a payoff of $2,214.95. Red Star Special won the sixth ($4.70), Tahuya Speed won the seventh ($16.90) and Wassup Bernie took the eightth ($8.90) prior to Immunity’s startling three-length victory in the ninth.

It was 35 years ago (Jan. 1, 1976) when Ray Gemmill drove Guy Dominion, owned by Jim Richards and nine players from the Vancouver Canucks, to victory in the first-ever race at what was then called Cloverdale Raceway.

The nine Canucks players who were part-owners of Guy Dominion included Gary (Suitcase) Smith, Andre Boudrias, Don Lever, John Gould, Ron Sedlbauer, Gerry O’Flaherty, Dennis Ververgaert, Chris Oddliefson and Gregg Boddy.

Saturday’s New Year’s Day nine-race card begins at 1:15 p.m.
