"The report was fairly comprehensive and it spoke to not just direct participants within our industry, but the indirect. We tried to draw from those folks their perceptions - not just trainers and owners and drivers and racetrack operators - but our customers, the wagering public

. Some of those perceptions, whether they're reality or not, are not quite as kind as maybe we'd like them to be. The reality is we have to do a better job for those folks."

A recent report commissioned by the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA) illustrates areas for growth that could be applied to virtually any jurisdiction in North America. On today's Trot Radio, Norm Borg and PEIHRIA Vice Chair Tom Clark discuss the findings of the 100-plus page report.

"The time for talk is well behind us. We have to start to implement," stated Clark. "The other side of the report which is the measurement of the impact on our economy here in Prince Edward Island was very important because that will help us establish where we are in 2010 so that when we review this in a couple of years we'll be able to see how did we do and measure our advances."
