Ideal Perception Outlasts Preferred Foes

The S S G Stables' Ideal Perception ($5.20) dug deep to parry two late challengers in Wednesday night's (Dec. 22) featured $13,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs, holding his ground for a 1:52 score amid wintry conditions.

The four-year-old son of American Ideal used the entire first turn to gain control of the terms from the pole-sitting Chiefs Beach, clearing from post 5 just before a :27.1 first quarter. Once clear, Ideal Perception and driver Anthony Haughan posted sizzling numbers despite the chilly sub-zero temperature, tearing through middle splits of :55.1 and 1:22.4 before bracing for a late bid from Chiefs Beach, who angled out of the pocket turning for home. Ideal Perception held his ground to win by three-quarters of a length, keeping both Chiefs Beach (Colin Kelly) and Hunter Hill (Scott Coulter) — who closed from well back to finish third — at bay.

Anthony Beaton trains Ideal Perception, who, earlier this year, finished second in the Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer. The 10-time winner has banked over $209,000 in his career.
