The nine-year-old Jeremes Jet stallion Ideal Jet jolted clear of his competitors to score an open-length 1:54 victory in the $11,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 Handicap Pace on Sunday (Dec. 20) at Flamboro Downs.

Driver Nick Boyd bolted Ideal Jet to the top heading to a :27.1 opening quarter and slowed the tempo to the half in :57. From there, the Craig Barss trainee accelerated away from the field, extending to a six-length lead to three-quarters in 1:24.4 and widening that margin through the stretch to win by nine-and-a-half lengths at the beam. J J Powerball took second in a photo over Moonwriter.

Co-owned by Barss with Nurko Sokolovic, Ideal Jet won his fifth race from 30 starts this season and his 38th from 231 overall, earning $578,970. He paid $5.70 to win.

Silver Beast bested his competition at large odds in the $8,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 Pace. The four-year-old Betterthancheddar gelding grabbed the lead to a :27.2 opening quarter and parked pocket-popper Sir Pugsley to a :56.4 half. Sir Pugsley soon retreated as the field marched for the backstretch, but G A Speed Sammy circled by to race first over and press the pacesetter to three-quarters in 1:26.2, though he stalled rounding the final turn. Silver Beast maintained control through the stretch as Brodys Scrapper rallied from third over to take second, one-and-a-quarter lengths behind, over 6-5 favourite The Downtown Bus.

Returning $49.50 to win, Silver Beast won his sixth race from 26 starts this season and his 10th from 43 overall, earning $84,013. Austin Sorrie drove the winner for trainer Mitchell Tierney and owner Island Silver Stables.
