Callahan Takes Five At Dover

Driver Corey Callahan ruled the roost at Dover Downs on Monday winning five times on the 15-race program

Callahan made his first trip to victory lane in the fifth race with Kellys Spur, who stopped the clock in 1:52.1 for trainer Eli Scott, Jr. Callahan bagged his next win in the eighth race behind the Nick Callahan-trained Cathedral Grove. The pacer, who held on to win by a nose, halted the teletimer in 1:53.4.

The Marvin Callahan-trained Fifth Wave’s 1:53 decision in the tenth race completed the hat trick and Desmet made it win number four thanks to his front-end triumph in the twelfth race. That Trevor Stafford pupil won by a length in 1:51.3. Callahan was back to the winner’s circle the very next race with the Kelly Lancaster-trained Aboycalledsu N after that veteran held on to win by a neck in 1:51.2.

The five-win performance for the Queenstown, Maryland sulky sitter pushed this year’s win total to 403 while his lifetime total climbed to 1,226. He has amassed more than $15 million in career purse earnings, and he has done it in his first five years of driving.
