Trotting Mares Top First Harrisburg Mixed Session

The 2012 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale continued on Friday with its first mixed sale session at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, which was topped by millionaire trotting mare Windsong Soprano.

Selling as Hip 1377, Windsong Soprano was purchased from the Lothlorien consignment for $340,000 by White Birch Farm of Allentown, New Jersey. The six-year-old Windsongs Legacy-Muscling In mare put together a record reading 17-11-4 in 47 career starts and took a mark of 1:52.4 while banking $1,279,510. She was bred to Kadabra in 2012.

Spectacular Bay, Hip 1473, was purchased for $180,000 by Diamond Creek Farms of Paris, Kentucky. The five-year-old Andover Hall-Manalapan mare, consigned by Northwood Bloodstock Agency, won 13 races in 65 starts and took a mark of 1:54.3 while banking $184,453 in purses. Her dam is a half-sister to Casual Breeze ($1,347,330, 1:53.1).

Peach Martini, Hip 1519, rounded out the top three highest priced purchases of the day, selling for $130,000. Consigned by agent Preferred Equine Marketing, the four-year-old Striking Sahbra-Armbro Martini mare was purchased by Concord Stud Farm of Cream Ridge, New Jersey. The Ontario Sires Stakes graduate won nine of her 28 races while banking $587,319 in purses and took a mark of 1:55.

A total of 439 horses were sold during the first mixed sale session for $6,318,400, producing an average price of $14,393.

The four-day yearling sale, held Monday through Thursday, saw 1,162 yearlings pass through the ring with gross sales totalling $33,568,500 and an average sale price of $28,889.

At the 2011 Harrisburg Sale, 1,096 select yearlings were sold for $34,167,000 for an average price of $31,174 and 952 mixed horses were sold for $20,928,200 for an average of $21,983. Pennsylvania sires led the way with 454 select yearlings selling for $15,085,700, an average of $33,228. Overall, 2,048 horses sold for $55,095,200, an average of $26,901.

The Harrisburg sale will wrap up on Saturday with the final mixed session.
