Churchill Hanover Tops Harrisburg Day 1

The 2012 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale kicked off Monday at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, with 239 horses going through the ring during the opening-day session.

Hip 119 Churchill Hanover was Monday’s sale topper after fetching a final bid of $380,000. The Well Said-Cathedra colt who sold as part of the Hanover Shoe Farms Inc. consignment was purchased by E & M Stride of Condell Park, New South Wales. The regally-bred youngster is a brother to the millionaresses Cathedra Dot Com (1:51 - $1,520,487) and Cabrini Hanover (1:51 - $1,303,790) and the talented male pacers Western Shooter (1:50 - $904,462) and The Preacher Pan (1:50 - $617,960).

Hip 111 Blister Hanover, a son of Somebeachsomewhere, was purchased out of the Hanover Shoe Farms Inc. consignment for $350,000 by agent Myron Bell of North Bergen, NJ. The colt is the first foal out of Boldnbrash Hanover, a sister to Big Jim (1:49.1 - $1,541,924).

Hip 115 Sweet Talkin Clyde, a son of Well Said-Sweet Future, was purchased for $325,000 by agent Kevin McDermott of Millstone, NJ. Consigned by Concord Stud Farm, the colt is a brother to Breeders Crown winners Bettor Sweet (1:47.2 - $2,305,619) and Sweet Lou (1:47.4 - $1,156,864).

Hip 248 Joost Hanover, who also sold as part of the Hanover Shoe Farms Inc. consignment, was purchased for $300,000 by Odds On Racing of Crete, IL. The Somebeachsomewhere-Jasmine Hanover colt is a brother to Little Miss Dragon (1:50.2 - $767,634).

The 239 horses in Monday’s opening session sold for a gross of $12,830,500 and an average sale price of $53,684.

At the 2011 Annual Sale, 1,096 Select yearlings were sold for $34,167,000, for an average of $31,174; 952 mixed horses were sold for $20,928,200, an average of $21,983. Pennsylvania sires led the way with 454 Select yearlings selling for $15,085,700, an average of $33,228. Overall, 2048 horses sold for $55,095,200, an average of $26,901.

The Select Yearling Sale will continue Tuesday through Thursday, followed by the Mixed Sale on Friday and Saturday.
