Charlottetown Hosts Atlantic Breeders Crown Consolations

Rock N Roll Cays demolished the two-year-old pacing filly Atlantic Breeders Crown consolation on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 8) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. 

Rock N Roll Cays came first over in the $7,500 rookie lass consolation and paced away to a seven-length victory in 1:56.4 in line to Ken Murphy for trainer Holmes and owner Hardcore Racing of Belfast. The Tobago Cays filly pushed her bankroll to $27,022 on the season while setting a new career best. Woodmere Heather M finished second ahead of Too Much For You. 

JK Pilot was the other Holmes winner in a 13-length victory in 1:55 for driver Corey MacPherson in Race 9, an overnight event. 

Murphy scored another $7,500 consolation win with three-year-old filly KCS Starlite with a 1:57.1 performance for co-owner and trainer Charles Miles of Fredericton, N.B., and co-owners Donald Bishop and Bruce MacDonald. Boo Yaya did the roadwork to settle for second while pocket riding Cantstopthelovin was third. 

Elm Grove Restwind was the best in the $7,500 two-year-old pacing colt Atlantic Breeders Crown consolation winning in 1:59.1 for trainer-driver Dowling and owners Alex Quinn of York and Brittany Watts of Springvale. JJ Landon landed in the middle of the triactor while Bad Boy Boogie rounded the ticket. 

Fern Hill General (pictured above) survived a stretch drive assault by Soul Assassin in the three-year-old pacing colt consolation to win in 1:55 with St Charlesfireball third. Brodie MacPhee drove the winning son of Malicious for owners Peter Smith of Stratford and Gerald Morrisey of Charlottetown and trainer Tom Weatherbie. 

Barrieau drove Palladium Hanover to a 1:59.2 maiden-breaking effort in the Race 1 opener to give the New Brunswick driver 4,999 wins. 

Live racing continues Sunday afternoon (Oct. 9) at 12:30 p.m. (ADT) for Atlantic Breeders Crown final day during the Weekend Of Champions at Red Shores Charlottetown.
