Trainer Mitch Tierney and driver Corey MacPherson put on a show at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday, as the duo clicked for a three-win performance

on the 12-race program.

MacPherson guided the Tierney-trained Smilin Jack Paysak to a 2:03.1 score in Race 3. The gelding, who was last at the half, drew off to win by more than two lengths as the odds-on favourite. They came right back to capture Race 4 with Dusty Lane Shelby, who turned in a front-stepping score in a time of 2:03.2.

Cruisematic gave the tandem the hat trick thanks to her come-from-behind triumph in Race 7. The daughter of Yankee Cruiser, who was sent off as the favourite, drew off to win by more than two lengths in the $1,500 conditioned event.

MacPherson, who is in his sophomore season as a driver, has nearly doubled last year’s win total thanks to his 61 scores in 2010. He is quickly closing in on $100,000 in purse earnings for the season.

Tierney is also in the midst of a career season. He has sent out 37 winners while banking more than $67,000 in earnings – and both of those totals are the highest he has assembled in a single season.
