Coventry Hall Tops Lexington Finale

Coventry Hall, Hip 683 and consigned by Walnut Hall Ltd., was the highest-priced acquisition on the final night of the Lexington Selected sale Saturday, Oct. 6 as the son of Cash Hall sold for $210,000.

By Cash Hall out of the Garland Lobell mare Canland Hall, Coventry Hall is a three-quarter brother to Cantab Hall, the Two-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year in 2003 and an earner of over $1.4 million. He's foaled from the Magna Force mare Canne Angus, who is a half sister to $1.8 million-earner Cameron Hall - who was the Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year in 2001 and the Three-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year in 2002. Keld Gregersen of Freiborg, Denmark purchased the colt.

Queen Paige, Hip 665 and consigned by Winbak Farm, was the only other six-digit sale on the session as the daughter of Muscles Yankee, out of the CR Commando mare Commando Queen, sold for $100,000 to the SRF Stable. Her second dam, Mets Rival, foaled the Mutineer mare Mets Inn, who is the broodmare to millionaire sophomore trotting Mets Hall. Mets Rival, a Pine Chip mare out of Yankee Blondie, is a half-sister to world-champion Muscle Hill.

The final session had 116 yearlings enter the ring, selling for a total of $2,765,000; an average of $23,836. Of all the sales sessions, 702 yearlings sold for a total of $39,770,000; an average of $56,652 and an approximately 10 per cent increase compared to the 2017 sale.

Muscle Hill, with 48 offspring entered, was the sale's leading sire with his progeny selling for a total of $5.8 million. Captaintreacherous was the sale's leading pacing sire and second overall with 58 yearlings selling for a total of $5,042,000. Father Patrick sold third best with 48 foals generating $4,186,000 and Somebeachsomewhere fourth with 26 entrants selling for a total of $2,763,000.
