The third session of the 2023 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale was written in the books on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 4) and trotting filly Mybffannee topped as the highest seller of the 247 yearlings sold.

Selling as Hip 440, Mybffannee was consigned by Crawford Farms and bought by Nancy Takter of Allentown, New Jersey, acting as agent, for $435,000. The filly is a daughter of Tactical Landing and Avalicious (1:53.2 - $202,438). She is a full sister to undefeated freshman Karl (1:51.2 - $330,310) and half sister to Lucius Vorenus (1:53 - $238,235).

“She’s a beautiful individual, just as nice as her brother,” Takter told the USTA. “Being Karl’s sister, there is a lot of residual value with her. I guess it kind of speaks to how confident we are in Karl’s ability. Hopefully, he stays healthy and sound; I think he’s a really, really nice horse. But I don’t want to short-change her and make it sound like she is just Karl’s sister. She’s a super individual herself.

“I think they’re both a little bit more refined, athletic-looking, Tactical Landings. They have kind of similar lines to them, the way they’re built.”

She added, with a laugh, “Hopefully, she is like her brother and wants to go really fast, too. That would be great.”

The $435,000 price tag is the highest for a third day / third session yearling sale purchase.

Hip 509 Lisbon, consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, was bought by Determination of Montreal, Que. for $375,000. The daughter of Tactical Landing-Swing It Cathy is a half-sister to Quaint (1:52.1 - $48,497).

Hip 619 Omega garnered a $200,000 bid by Barbato Breeding LLC of Demarast, New Jersey. The daughter of Cantab Hall-Exceed Expectation was consigned by Cane Run Farm. She is a full sister to My Mvp (1:51.2 - $879,764), full sister to Top Expectations (1:51 - $532,677), and half-sister to Expectations (1:53.4 - $139,399).

Hip 538 Yannick G Kemp was consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency and bought by Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Ont. for a $180,000 tag. The son of Walner-Southwind Adele is a half-brother to She Rocks Kemp (1:54 - $257,586).

Hip 438 Channing sold for a $170,000 price tag to Howard Taylor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Crawford Farms consigned the son of Propulsion and Stella Jane (1:54.4 - $301,890).

Session three of the sale rounded up $13,021,000 in total revenue from 247 yearlings, up from the 2022 total of $11,994,000. The average bid went up from $51,038 last year to $52,717 this year.

In total, the three sessions have yielded $58,485,000 from 607 yearlings sold with an average of $96,351, up from 2022's three session total of $55,494,000.
