Two divisions of the Ontario Graduate Series were contested in Tuesday’s second round at Georgian Downs, with P L Fighter and repeat winner Sky Mcfly capturing their respective $15,000 tilts.

P L Fighter got things started when he held on for a half-length score in the opening division for driver Dan Clements and trainer Jeffrey Brooks. The three-year-old son of Jeremes Jet-Go Wilma Go got away fifth while Giddy Up Blackfly rocketed to the top. He cut a first panel in :27.1 before passing the baton to The Riddler at the mid-way point in :55.3.

Clements hustled P L Fighter to the outside and rushed to the lead just as the field passed the three-quarter station in 1:24. A :29.2 closing frame was just enough for him to stave off the late-rushing Giddy Up Blackfly, with The Riddler settling for third prize.

Prince Lee Acres of Uxbridge, ON bred and owns the gelding, who owns a 3-4-2 record from 21 starts this season after going unraced in his rookie year. The lion’s share of Tuesday’s purse lifted his lifetime loot to $47,000.

Sky Mcfly, who was a 1:53.3 winner in last week’s opening leg assignment over a ‘fast’ track, got the job done over a ‘good’ oval this evening for trainer/driver Roger Mayotte in a time of 1:55.3.

The three-year-old son of Jeremes Jet-Nvincible got away third and held that position to the half while P L Faststrike and Red Carpet Dude took turns on the lead through intervals of :28.2 and :58.4. Mayotte launched his first-over bid in the backstretch with Sky Mcfly, who was in the process of clearing to the top at the three-quarter pole in 1:27. A :28.3 kicker was enough to earn him the win by three-quarters of a length over True To Mach, with Red Carpet Dude taking home third prize.

Mayotte of Mississauga, ON shares ownership on the five-time winner with Ross Warriner of Burlington and Lou Liebenau of Thornhill, ON. The pacer, who didn’t race in his freshman season, is closing in on $60,000 in earnings this season.
