The ageless wonder Meladys Monet overcame post eight to pick up his 82nd career victory in Friday night's (Oct. 29) $48,000 Open Handicap Trot at Yonkers Raceway.

Driven by Jason Bartlett, the 12-year-old gelding by Revenue S was able to find a seat in third and watched as Rock Of Cashel, piloted by Austin Siegelman, hit the quarter in :27.2 and the half in :56.4. Meladys Monet then went on the attack in the third quarter, and he would wrestle command away from Rock Of Cashel after the 1:26.2 three-quarters. From there, Meladys Monet had to hold off Big Box Hanover and driver Jim Marohn Jr., and he was able to do so, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.2. Warrior One, steered by George Brennan, came in third.

Trained by Hermann Heitmann for owner Melady Enterprises LLC, Meladys Monet has now won 15 times this year to push his lifetime earnings to $1,963,658. He paid $12.20 to win and was atop a $138 exacta and a $524 trifecta.

In the final leg of the Pick 5, only Im The Muscle was not covered, and he ended up winning in gate-to-wire fashion at odds of 54-1. As a result, there will be a $4,178.18 carryover and a $10,000 guaranteed pool in the wager on Monday night (Nov. 1).

The guarantee in the Pick 5 is being offered as part of the United States Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program. Free past performances for the Pick 5 will be available on the TrackMaster website. The Pick 5, which begins in race five, has a takeout rate of 20 per cent.

Monday night’s 12-race program at Yonkers gets underway at 7:15 p.m.
