Driver Corey MacPherson was the star of the show Sunday (Oct. 22) afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, opening and closing the cards as part of a five-bagger.

The Cornwall, P.E.I. driver opened up the card winning with Melanies Magic (1:59.1) from his own stable on a windy and wet day as the track was rated two seconds off. MacPherson continued the winning from his own barn with Evil Vintage (2:00.3) and closed out the afternoon with Cheekie Play (2:00) for the training triple in race 14.

The day featured the Home Hardware Maritime Breeders Stakes for two-year-old colt and filly pacers and MacPherson teamed a pair of catch-drives to victory in those races. He drove Chip Of Evil to a 2:02.2 score for trainer Eddy Doucette and owner Inarush Stable of Kensington, P.E.I. in a $17,500 two-year-old filly division.

Southfield Patrick was the best in his $17,500 Home Hardware Maritime Breeders two-year-old colt division in 2:02.2 for owner/trainer Danny Campbell of Lingan, N.S., as another piece of MacPherson’s five-win day.

Goodmorning Nova (Gilles Barrieau) won her fourth straight in a $17,500 filly division for trainer Dwane MacEachern and owners Melissa Banks of Summerside and Jason Williams of McNeills Mills, P.E.I., in a 2:02.4 clocking.

Lady Willa was a winner in another filly division for the father-daughter duo of co-owner and driver Colin Sheppard and co-owner and trainer Morgan Sheppard in 2:03.2. The Sheppards also won an overnight contest in race 11 with Shakemeup Hanover in 2:00.4.

Jackies Boy went all the way to victory in a $17,500 two-year-old pacing colt division for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., and owner/trainer Myles Heffernan Jr. The winning time was 2:00.3.

Atlantic Breeders Crown champion Tobins Chester was the best in his division, winning in 2:00.4 for trainer/driver Jason Hughes and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I.

Twin B Tuffenuff won the $3,800 Preferred 1 Pace from gate-to-wire in 1:57.3 with Gilles Barrieau in the bike for trainer Ron Matheson and local owner Patrick Morris.

Live racing continues Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Summerside.
