The Light Speed was driven to a gate-to-wire triumph in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace by his trainer Guy Gagnon at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening (Oct. 22).

Flying from post four, The Light Speed assumed early command of the tempo. After posting panels In :27.3, :58.3 and 1:28.1, Gagnon and his student crossed the wire 1-1/2 lengths the best in 1:57. Jet Rock (Robert Shepherd) zoomed home to take second and Aladdin (Stephane Brosseau) was third.

Owned by Michel Nolette, the five-year-old gelding has a record of 14-7-1 in 24 starts this season to go along with $101,675. In his career, The Light Speed boasts $311,554 banked from a record of 42-31-7 in 96 starts. He paid $6.50 to win from 2-1 odds.
