Tokyo Seelster won the featured $10,000 Open 1 Trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday (Oct. 1).

Tokyo Seelster was first to the quarter in :27.1. Joxter came first up and wrestled the lead away as they reached the top of the backstretch and led to the half in :56. Lepanto made a first-over move going around the final turn but just sputtered and went nowhere. Joxter led to three-quarters in 1:25.1.

As they made the turn for home, Tokyo Seelster popped the pocket and came after the leader. Joxter dug in but could not hold off the late spurt from Tokyo Seelster who won in a lifetime best of 1:53.2. Joxter had to settle for second. Hotfoot Hannah finished third.

Tokyo Seelster is a four-year-old horse by Kadabra. He is owned by Michael Sergi and trainer Sam Sergi. It was his third win this season and he now owns nine victories. Truman Gale drove the $16.40 winner.

Steeven Genois and Frank Affrunti each had driving doubles on the card.

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (Oct. 7).
