Heist Seelster Tops London Classic Yearling Sale Opener

The first edition of the London Classic Yearling Sale kicked off on Tuesday (Oct. 18) afternoon at the Western Fair District Agriplex in London, Ont., with Heist Seelster topping the opening session.

Heist Seelster, Hip 38, was purchased for $165,000 by Gestion R. Zane of Laval, Que. Consigned by breeder Seelster Farms, the Resolve colt is out of the Angus Hall mare Hollywood Beauty, who has produced three winners of more than $100,000 including Hemi Seelster ($856,218 - 1:51.4), Henderson Seelster ($355,914 - 1:52.4) and Heineken Seelster ($168,368 - 1:56).

Another colt from the Seelster Farms consignment topped the pacing yearlings as Liege Seelster, Hip 73, was purchased for $125,000 by Mac Nichol of Burlington, Ont. The Bettors Delight-Los Angeles colt is a half sibling to North America Cup champion Thinking Out Loud ($1,957,217 - 1:47.2) and West Of L A ($257,150 - 1:53.2), the dam of millionaires Somewhere In L A and two-time O'Brien Award winner L A Delight.

A pair of Muscle Mass offspring from the Dean and Ashley Wilson consignment were among the highest-priced yearlings of the opening session. The colt Munchie Muscles (Muscle Mass-Lady Bling), Hip 77, was purchased for $122,000 by Gregg McNair of Guelph, Ont. while the filly Muscone (Muscle Mass-Jangone), Hip 69, also garnered a six-figure bid, selling for $110,000 to Anthony Haughan of Cambridge, Ont., acting as agent.

Salem Seelster, Hip 84, also sold for $110,000 to round out the top five yearlings. Consigned by Seelster Farms, the filly is another daughter of Muscle Mass out of Speak Of The Devil, a half sister to world champion J L Cruze. Salem Seelster was purchased by Determination Stable of Montreal, Que.

Six yearlings sold with six-figure price tags, with Century Komodo, Hip 69, going for an even $100,000. Consigned by Century Springs Farm Inc., the Bettors Delight-Michelons Filly was acquired by Scott McEneny of Waterdown, Ont.

A total of 94 yearlings were sold during the opening session for $3,745,000, producing a sale average of $39,840.

The sale continues on Wednesday at 12 noon featuring the remaining Hips 101-195.
