Tokyo Seelster Triumphs In Vernon Open

Tokyo Seelster ($10.80) and driver Truman Gale rocketed past Zapaca to win the $10,000 Open 1 & 2 Handicap Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (Oct. 14). 

Tokyo Seelster went straight to the front but Zapaca went on by and was first to the quarter in :26.4. Zapaca led to the hald in :55.4 and three-quarters in 1:24.4 while  Tokyo Seelster made his move first-over heading around the final turn. As they reached the stretch, Zapaca gave it everything he had, but Tokyo Seelster wore him down to win in 1:53.4.  Ongoing Royalty (Steeven Genois) finished third. 

Tokyo Seelster is a four-year-old horse by Kadabra.  He is owned by Michae Sergi and trainer Sam Sergi.  The win was his fourth this season from nine starts.  He now has 10 career victories. 

Live harness racing continues at Vernon Downs on Saturday, with a 10-race card starting at 6:05 p.m.
