Odds-on choice Black Tie Bash scored a repeat victory in the $10,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday night (Oct. 13).

Duke Lavictoire cleared command past a :28.1 first quarter with Comeonover Hanover sitting the pocket. Black Tie Bash raced sixth until driver Robert Shepherd tipped out and caught cover from Raising Rusty moving past a :58.3 half. Ranging forward to three-quarters in 1:27.2, Black Tie Bash bolted off a helmet around the final turn and soared through the stretch to maintain the lead to the finish of a 1:56.4 mile by a half length over late-charging Seeyou Men. Fit Bitt finished third and Raising Rusty settled for fourth.

Shepherd owns Black Tie Bash, a four-year-old Chapter Seven gelding, and Isabelle Darveau trains. The gelding won his 15th race from 58 starts, has now earned $137,508 and paid $3 to win.
