Malignity used a three-quarter-pole power move to defeat his opposition in Joe O’Brien Memorial Gold division action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 1) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Fishermans Son was on top in that $18,600 O’Brien Gold division for two-year-old pacing colts and had the rest of the field well in hand at the three-quarters of 1:28.2 when Malignity and driver Paul Langille launched three-wide pacing hard to make the lead and get the jump on the leader. Fishermans Son fought back but fell two lengths short to Malignity in 1:56.4 to have his win streak snapped at five races. Debbie Francis co-owns the winning colt with fellow Nova Scotia resident Rosanne Langille.

Starship Glyde won the other $18,600 O’Brien Gold split in 1:57.1 for owner Claude Poirier as part of a training double for Earl Watts and driving quadruple for David Dowling.

Dowling also won a $21,750 Lady Slipper Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies with Elm Grove Redwine from his own barn in 1:58.3 for owners Alex Quinn, Carl Peterson and Brittany Watts.

Redlandbethanyjean (pictured above) was the best in her $21,750 Gold division in 1:57.1 as one of two wins for trainer Tom Weatherbie. Brodie MacPhee drove the filly for owner Redland Farms.

Twin B Tuffenuff took a pocket ride to victory in the $7,000 Reliable Motors - Richard Campbell Memorial Invitational in 1:52.2 pacing past pacesetter Time To Dance. Gilles Barrieau drove the Ron Matheson trainee to victory for owner Pat Morris.

Live racing continues Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. (ADT) at Red Shores Summerside for an all-stakes presentation along with the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares series presented by Standardbred Canada.
