Another Pop-Up Series at Flamboro Downs went the way of a prelim sweep with 3-2 favourite Privilege notching victory in the $18,000 final on Sunday (Jan. 30).

Driver Paul MacKenzie sent the six-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding for the lead from post six with Day Delight securing the pocket to a :28.1 first quarter. No Bettor Joy came charging out of fifth heading towards a :57.2 half but stalled on the second circuit and as Privilege cruised to three-quarters in 1:26.1. Day Delight remained Privilege’s closest pursuer coming into the stretch, and he launched out of the pocket to take a shot at the leader late. However Privilege stayed strong to the inside and kept a half-length up on Day Delight to stop the clock in 1:55.1. That pair finished about five lengths better than No Bettor Joy while Exit Smiling closed for fourth.

Owned by Natasha Miller, Privilege won his 15th race from 66 starts, lifting his earnings to $74,040. Clayton Miller trains the $5 winner.
