The comeback trail has turned out to be a long and winding road for Wiggle It Jiggleit, but the fan favourite found his way back to victory lane in the Thursday, January 2 Preferred Handicap at Dover Downs.

Without a victory since Oct. 15, 2016 at Yonkers Raceway, Wiggle It Jiggleit was reunited with the winner’s circle following his 1:51 triumph in the Thursday feature.

Montrell Teague worked out a two-hole trip behind Larry Karr in the richest tilt on the card, and after fractions of :27 and :55.3 were thrown down it was Wiggle It Jiggleit who went into attack mode. He pulled the pocket and prompted Larry Karr to the three-quarter pole in 1:23.2 before using a :27.2 closing quarter to haul down that foe and draw clear to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Slick Tony in 1:51. Bo Mach rallied to finish third.

Clyde Francis trains the eight-year-old son of Mr Wiggles-Mozzi Hanover for George Teague Jr Inc of Harrington, DE and Teague Racing Partnership of Boynton Beach, FL. It was the 39th career tally for the winner of more than $4 million in lifetime earnings.

Sicily was a front-stepping winner in the $27,500 Blue Hen Open for the tandem of driver Victory Kirby and trainer Wayne Givens.

After getting away third, Kirby shot Sicily to the front on the way to the half. Late Mail N threw down the :25.4 opening quarter, but Sicily sliced out middle splits of :54 and 1:21.3 before using a :28.2 final frame to win by 4-1/2 lengths over Little Ben in 1:50. Race favourite Hallies Comet took home the show dough.

The eight-year-old son of Art Major-Capri Hanover won for the 29th time in his career for the partnership of Legacy Racing Of De Inc and Reginald Hazzard. The photogenic performer has banked more than $600,000 to date.
