Proven star Voelz Hanover continued her stroll down the comeback trail this morning at Mohawk Racetrack, while a budding youngster was taking his first steps in what may be a long career as a harness driver

Five-year-old Astreos mare Voelz Hanover, who was putting in her second qualifying effort since coming back from retirement, starred in the first of nine races during the weekly qualifying docket at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.

Trained by Ben Baillargeon and driven by brother Mario Baillargeon, Voelz Hanover left from Post 6 and led at every call before stopping the clock five lengths the best in 1:56.3. The fractions were cut in :29.4, :59.1 and 1:28.2 over a 'fast' track which was rated one second slow all morning.

From 31 career starts, Voelz Hanover has a career record of 13 wins, six second-place finishes and four thirds. The mare took her 1:51.2 mark over Woodbine Racetrack at age three and has earned $662,134. The mare has yet to start in a pari-mutuel race as an aged performer.

The other highlight of the morning session was the fact that 18-year-old Scott Young, son of polished trainer Bob Young, was making his qualifying debut.

Scott drove five horses on the morning, with his top finish a third-place effort on the George Sholty-trained Morguns Fire in Race 3.
