MacDonald Tallies Five; Moreau Triples At Mohawk

Goldies Rockin and James MacDonald to pocket a distaff claiming pace worth $11,000 on Thursday (Jan. 11) at Woodbine Mohawk Park tallying the fifth win of the evening for MacDonald.

MacDonald and the Richard Moreau student settled in second behind the favoured Littlebearcat (Doug McNair). As the pacesetter for the mile, Littlebearcat set the tempo with panels in :27.2, :56.2 and 1:26. At the third quarter panel, Goldies Rockin tipped from the pocket to the outside and Kickin Cowgirl (Louis-Philippe Roy) followed her cover from fourth. Down the lane, Goldies Rockin achieved the lead with open track ahead. With a :28.3 final panel, the mare continued home to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:54.4. Kickin Cowgirl grabbed second and Littlebearcat had to settle for third.

Goldies Rockin has now won her first two starts of 2024. In her career, the five-year-old Rockin Image-A Loskoz Bluegrass mare has won 15 races from 70 starts, banking $111,872. Yolanda Fellows, Domenic Chiaravalle, Eugenio Chiaravalle and Anthony Chiaravalle co-own Goldies Rockin. As the 3-1 third choice, she returned $7.10 to win.

Moreau scored with three trainees on Thursday's card, teaming up with MacDonald, including with Hillbilly Jet ($3.70) by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:55.4 and Proud Of My Roots ($3.50) by a nose in 1:56.4.

MacDonald completed his five-bagger with Windsun Diego ($4) by a neck in 1:56.1 for trainer Murray Brethour and Waitinonawoman ($3.50) by a half length in 1:55.3 for trainer Jodie Cullen.
