Western Silk Tops Final Harrisburg Session

The 2012 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale wrapped up on Saturday with its second and final mixed sale session at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

Topping the session was Western Silk, who sold for $330,000. Selling as Hip 2074, the daughter of Western Terror out of Extemporaneous was purchased by White Birch Farm of Allentown, New Jersey from agent Preferred Equine Marketing. The five-year-old mare, who was campaigned by Casie Coleman, has put together a record reading 26-8-7 in 57 starts while banking $1,717,788. The former Ontario Sires Stakes standout and Jugette winner was named Canada's 2010 Three-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year. She sports a mark of 1:50.1 taken in the Fan Hanover Stakes at Mohawk Racetrack.

Real Babe, Hip 2064, was purchased for $200,000 by E & M Stride of Condell Park, Australia from agent Preferred Equine Marketing. The three-year-old daughter of Donato Hanover out of millionaress Housethatruthbuilt banked $223,478 while competing on the Grand Circuit under the care of Ray Schnittker. She took a mark of 1:56.1 in a qualifier this year at Pocono Downs.

Simply Business, Hip 2155, was purchased by agent Bradley Grant of Milton, Ont. for $180,000 from consignor Northwood Bloodstock Agency. The three-year-old colt is a son of Rocknroll Hanover and millionairess Cathedra Dot Com, who is a half-sister to Cabrini Hanover ($1,473,729, 1:51) and The Preacher Pan ($715,878, 1:50) out of the Hall of Fame broodmare Cathedra. The 2011 Metro Pace winner, who was campaigned by Jimmy Takter, sports a record reading 5-4-5 in 27 starts with $811,589 banked in purses and a mark of 1:50.1 taken in the Metro at Mohawk and equalled this year at Harrah's Philadephia.

A total of 909 horses were sold during the two-day mixed sale on Friday and Saturday for a total of $15,865,400, producing an average price of $17,454.

The four-day yearling sale, held Monday through Thursday, saw 1,162 yearlings pass through the ring with gross sales totalling $33,568,500 and an average sale price of $28,889.

At the 2011 Harrisburg Sale, 1,096 select yearlings were sold for $34,167,000 for an average price of $31,174 and 952 mixed horses were sold for $20,928,200 for an average of $21,983. Pennsylvania sires led the way with 454 select yearlings selling for $15,085,700, an average of $33,228. Overall, 2,048 horses sold for $55,095,200, an average of $26,901.
